Sports Day

Sports Day is looming! This will be on Friday 15th July from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Shaw Lane Cricket Ground/ Rugby Club. Team lists should be with parents this week, based on the school's house system. Pupils need their PE kits with an appropriately coloured T-shirt (red for Aylward members, blue for Hudson-Taylor and green for Wilberforce).

The day starts with a Big Walk around the cricket field for an hour and we hope parents will help pupils to get as many sponsors as possible for this, as it's the last fund-raising effort of the academic year.

After that, there'll be a variety of fun races, a picnic lunch, ice-cream or lollipops and then a penalty shoot-out and rounders, followed by parents' races. So we do hope as many parents as possible can come and join in!

At the end of the day the winning team will be awarded the Christina Mulder trophy!

Beauty Evening photos

I've finally been sent some photos from the Beauty Evening on 13th June. We had a wonderful evening being pampered, as well as raising £422.50 for school, and hope to hold another event like this in November.

School Sunday

School Sunday is coming soon! At 10 a.m. on Sunday 26th June at Hope House Church, the annual School Sunday service will be held, followed afterwards by the church Wet 'n' Wild event at Pugneys near Wakefield, where you can try your hand at various water sports.

For new parents and those who've not taken part in School Sunday before, let me emphasise that this is a really important part of the school calendar. It's a chance to celebrate all that God is doing in school in the context of the church community from which the school arises. The service ususally lasts about an hour and includes songs, participation by the children, a short word from Paul Bedford (leader of Hope House Church and school governor). Refreshments are served after the service and then there's the opportunity to move on to Pugneys to take part with Adventure Outreach in the Wet 'n' Wild fun day. Bring a picnic to that.

From an FBCS point of view, this is a great opportunity to buy the anniversary mugs which will be on sale! So bring your £5 and take home your mug as well!

Sponsored Walk

A small group of hardy walkers braved the cool, windy weather at Langsett Reservoir yesterday for the FBCS Sponsored Walk. Five miles and almost two hours of walking, conversation, exploring and fun. Later, we assembled for a picnic.

And here we are at the end, triumphant at finishing!

Mr & Mrs Hitchen arrived too late to walk with us most of the time, so they did their own walk and joined us at the end:

Why do we organise such events? Obviously there is the fund-raising aspect, but walks like this don't really tend to raise massive amounts of money. Perhaps more important is the opportunity to spend time with people from school, getting to know them, learning more about each other, cementing the family atmosphere of the school. There is also the chance to get out and about (good exercise, good scenery). All of these things are great and those who went on the walk, despite the less than June-like weather, really enjoyed the afternoon.

Quick update

I'm still waiting for photos of the Beauty Evening to be emailed to me (my camera's battery having died on me...), but I wanted to let everyone know that the event raised £422.50 for the school, which is great news. We had a fantastic evening! Many thanks to all the staff at the House of Beauty for all their help.

The Sponsored Walk will be tomorrow (Saturday 18th June) at 4 p.m., meeting at Langsett Barn Car Park. After the walk, weather permitting, we'll be having a picnic together, so do bring some food and drink and we'll see you there!

Final call for Beauty Evening!

Don't forget the Beauty Evening at the House of Beauty on Pitt Street tonight, Monday 13th June, starting at 6 p.m. If you need to book a slot, this is your last chance to do so at school!

And whilst we're all being made to feel wonderful through manicures, pedicures, massages and the like (and raising money for school at the same time), don't forget that beauty is more than skin deep.

"Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewellery or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight." (1 Pet 3:3-4)

Coming soon...

The anniversary mugs should be available soon. Here's what they look like:

They're suitable for left-handers too!:

They have the anniversary text inside the mug:

They will probably sell for the bargain price of £5 and hopefully will be available for sale on School Sunday (26th June). You can order them from the office; payments will be required with orders.
